We hope you find OxyRocks to be a valuable addition to your toolkit. Four years ago we released this product to the market and are overwhelmingly pleased with the positive responses, thank you. We enjoy consulting with mineral vendors, museum curators, commercial gold projects and individual collectors to achieve excellent results. Call or email with us with your specific cleaning needs and we will be happy to work with you.

Directions for use: OxyRocks concentrated solution was developed to be diluted between 5:1 and 20:1 with common tap water. This cleaner is non-gaseous, and produces no dangerous fumes. It works well at room temperature, also in an ultrasonic bath. If heat is used, optimal results are found at around 120F. Solution becomes corrosive at temperatures above 150F. Always test on small amount of any lesser specimens before cleaning your prizes.

Methods for best results: This solution is aggressive on zinc, calcium, manganese, and possibly other minerals; always test with lesser specimens to evaluate the reaction. It is less aggressive on stubborn or complex iron stains.

General Use: 1) Clean specimen with water or soap and water. Use a toothbrush or scrub brush as needed, avoid brass or metal brushes. Remove as much dirt and loose matter as reasonable. 2) Check your tap water before making solution, if pH is 8 or higher consider using distilled water; if lower than 7, this will aid the solution. OxyRocks works best between a pH of 0.5 and 4.0, the optimal pH is around 2.0. Make a solution approx. 20:1 to start with (2.5 to 3 ounces to a gallon of water) in a plastic container with lid to prevent spillage. 3) Immerse specimen with tongs or rubber glove. Wait, be patient. Check daily, look for residual to appear on bottom of container. You can rinse and re-scrub specimen anytime during the process if needed. Remove specimen, place in diluted solution of baking soda to neutralize, rinse thoroughly. 4) This solution is reusable if kept covered; check the pH and add fresh OxyRocks if needed.

Oxalic Acid (Generally for Quartz only): If you are working with a stubborn stain or complex iron issues, try adding a small amount of oxalic acid to the solution (2-3 ounces per gallon) as a catalyst. This should remove any remaining stains without burning or discoloring. Then after a rinse and inspection place in a fresh solution of 20:1 OxyRocks and water only. Check daily until satisfied with the results. Remove specimen, place in diluted solution of baking soda to neutralize, then rinse thoroughly.

Commercial Method (Generally for Quartz only): Start with 1 lb. oxalic acid to 5 gallons of water, mix well; don't breath fumes, and always wear rubber gloves and safety glasses. Place specimen and put a lid on container, leave for several days to a week; remove specimen, place in diluted solution of baking soda to neutralize, rinse thoroughly. Be aware that too long in an oxalic acid bath can discolor your specimen. Place in 20:1 solution of OxyRocks and water, this removes any remaining debris and stops any residual oxalic acid activity. Use the "General Use" instructions above for final stage.

Helpful Hints to aid the cleaning process:

1) An Aquarium pump (not expensive) to keep the solution moving. A pump with a light can help keep the solution warmer; a pump with suction cups will vibrate the tub with subsonic vibrations. 2) An old crock pot to warm solution to a range between 110F- 125F. In warm summer climates, leave solution container in direct sunlight for ambient warming. 3) A few drops of soap (Dawn liquid) to act as a surfactant is okay, not too much as this will raise the pH. 4) Textile cleaning gun: 1200-1600psi, several models available. 5) Mineral Solubility: Gem and Mineral Data Book ,John Sinkankas (1988) ISBN 0-945005-01-6
